EASY NATURAL WAYS TO WHITEN YOUR TEETH
WHITEN TEETH BY TAKING A SHOT AT OIL PULLING:
This is a traditional indian remedy aimed at improving oral hygiene and eliminating toxins from your body. This process involves rolling the oil around in your mouth to remove bacteria which can turn to plaque. Simply because the indians use sesame or sunflower oil doesn’t mean any other oil will not work. You can use coconut oil because of its pleasant taste and numerous health benefits, its high in lauric acid which helps in reducing inflammation and the reduction of bacteria. Studies have shown that rolling around the sesame oil in your mouth daily can greatly reduce streptococcus mutans which is one of the primary types of bacteria in the mouth that causes plaques and gingivitis in as little as one week. To oil pull, pour the coconut oil into a tablespoon, put it in your mouth, swing the oil back and forth through your teeth for about 15-20 minutes, Make sure you spit out the oil into the toilet or a waste bin as it could block your drain pipes and cause a blockage once it turns solid. This process is not scientifically proven but it is safe and worth a try.
WHITEN TEETH BY BRUSHING WITH BAKING SODA:
Natural whitening ingredients are contained in baking soda, that is why it is a prominent ingredient in every household toothpaste. It prevents bacteria from growing by creating an alkaline environment in your mouth and its a delicate and non-irritating abrasive that help scrub away surface stains on your teeth. A considerable number of studies show that toothpastes containing baking soda: (i) has a powerful whitening effect, (ii) are much more powerful at getting rid of yellow stains, and (iii) remove plaque from teeth than toothpaste that do not contain baking soda. To use this therapy, mix one teaspoon of baking soda with two teaspoons of water and brush your teeth with the paste. Repeat this procedure a few times per week.
BRUSHING WITH HYDROGEN PEROXIDE:
Hydrogen peroxide is a natural bleaching agent that also helps in killing bacteria in the mouth. Studies show that toothpastes containing baking soda and hydrogen peroxide of 1% led to significantly whiter teeth and brushing your teeth with toothpaste that contains baking soda and hydrogen peroxide twice in a day leads to 62% whiter teeth in six weeks. Overuse or strong concentration of hydrogen peroxide can cause gum irritation and tooth sensitivity. Ensure that you are using 1.5% of hydrogen peroxide to avoid the after-effects, and because the concentration you are likely to get at your drugstore will be at least 3%, you can divide the solution into two portions and mix the equal parts with water to get 1.5%. Use this as a mouth wash. Also, you can mix two teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide with one teaspoon of baking soda and gently brush your teeth with the mixture. Restrict the usage of this mixture to a few times per week as overuse can erode your tooth enamel.
USING APPLE CIDER VINEGAR:
The main active ingredient in apple cider vinegar which effectively kills bacteria, cleans your mouth and whitens your teeth is acetic acid. A study carried out cow teeth showed that apple cider vinegar has bleaching effect on teeth but it may soften it at the same time. The acid in the vinegar may possibly cause erosion in the enamel of your teeth, that is why apple cider vinegar should not be used everyday and there should be a restriction to the number of times it comes in contact with your teeth. Dilute it with water and swish it back and forth in your mouth for several minutes to use it as a mouth wash. Always make sure that you rinse your mouth with plain water afterwards. Restricts its usage to a few times per week.
MUNCHING ON FRUITS AND VEGETABLE:
In particular, pineapple and strawberry are two fruits that have been claimed, although not scientifically, to help whiten your teeth. Although, eating pineapple has not been scientifically proven as a method of whitening the teeth, toothpaste that contains bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapple was prominently more effective at eliminating stains on the teeth than regular toothpaste. Also, strawberry and a baking soda mixture can help in whitening your teeth. Malic acid present in strawberry will help in removing discoloration on your teeth while the baking soda mixture will help clear the stains from your teeth. Cut a fresh strawberry into pieces, combine it with the baking soda mixture and brush your teeth with it. Remember to limit this process to few times per week because excessive usage could cause damage. Regular consumption of fruits can help fight off plaque and keep your teeth constantly bright looking.
PREVENTION OF FOOD STAINS BEFORE THEY OCCUR:
Reduce the amount of time you come in contact with foods and beverages that can stain your teeth.
